Underneath the “Open in new tab” option, you’ll see “Available offline”. In your main Google Docs or Google Sheets menu, find a file you’d like to make available offline and click the three dots underneath its name. You’re simply enabling the functionality ready for when you lose connection.
Note that you won’t go offline immediately. On the right-hand side, switch the toggle and press “OK”. Look towards the bottom of the Settings window, where you’ll find the “Offline” heading.
If you’re unfamiliar with the turn, that’s the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner of your browser window.
